Q. If I do not pay my taxes, will I lose my property? Yes, if you do not pay your taxes, you will lose your property. Q. What does it mean if my taxes are delinquent? Property taxes are considered delinquent when they are submitted to the County Treasurer as unpaid as of March 1 of the year after they were originally due.
Q. What does it mean if my taxes are in forfeiture? If my taxes are in forfeiture, will I lose my property? Taxes that are in forfeiture are not in foreclosure. If you property is in forfeiture, you still have a year before they will be foreclosed upon. Once foreclosed upon, you will lose your property. Q. If my property is in forfeiture, will I receive notice that it is up for foreclosure? Yes. You will receive multiple mailing from the time your property goes delinquent and through forfeiture. The mailing will include at least two certified mailings as well as listings in the local newspaper. Q. If my property is foreclosed upon, can I get it back? After your property has been foreclosed, you can not get it back and it will be sold at a public auction.
Q. If my property is considered delinquent or in forfeiture, may I make weekly or monthly payments on them? Payment arrangements are accepted for taxes that are delinquent or in forfeiture. Taxes that are delinquent must be paid in full on the following February 28th to prevent additional fees. Taxes that are in forfeiture must e paid in full on the Following March 31st to prevent foreclosure on the property. Q. Can you forgive some of the interest and penalties on my delinquent taxes?
No, state law sets interest and penalties on delinquent tax amounts. There are no allowances to make any adjustments in those laws.
Q. What did I pay in property taxes last year?
This information is available on your tax receipt. We encourage you to request, save, and file your receipts so you have them available to assist with the preparation of your yearly Income Tax Form. Payment information is also available by contacting your local municipality. Q. Where would I mail the payment for my property taxes? All current taxes are made payable to your local municipality. Any property taxes not collected as of February 28th on the following year are considered delinquent and are made payable to Ogemaw County. Taxes can be paid in person during normal working hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at 806 W. Houghton Ave, Room 103 at the Treasurer’s Office. Payments toward taxes that are in forfeiture must be through certified funds, such as cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit card. Delinquent taxes maybe made by any one of these methods or through a personal check. Q. How do I change my mailing address?

Ogemaw County Treasurer PO Box 56 West Branch, MI 48661 Q. Can I have my tax bill sent directly to my mortgage company? No. Tax bills are not sent to mortgage companies. It is the properties owner’s responsibility to forward the information to the correct company. Mortgage companies can contact Ogemaw County Equalization to receive a tax summary file by disk or email containing property tax amounts. Q. How much are my taxes?
